Ok so I did really enjoy the book, the pacing was perfect and made for a lovely read (not difficult).
HOWEVER, the big speeches about society felt very repetitive and there impact fell flat, the commentary about the society that characters would give felt very obvious? And generic? I get that that’s kind of the point but I wish that it focused on Winston’s mental state more (I really enjoyed those parts).
Also, the relationship with Julia felt quite gross? Like he is sooo much older than her and it felt unnecessary to make her this temptress type character. Like it would have been okish if he needed to be swayed or convinced to fight the system but he has strong feelings of rebellion from the first chapter.

Great book, great pacing but didn’t like the relationship with Julia and the majority of ‘epic’ speeches of realisation about their society.
