I met Aristotle and Dante more than 10 years ago, during a literature class in college. They came along at a time when I was questioning my sexuality and helped me understand myself. Now, as an openly queer mom of two, reading this book was like visiting with old friends. I felt every emotion imaginable. Alire Sáenz captures life’s biggest questions and boils them down into a handful of teenagers. The teenager left in me giggled and remembered. The mom in me tsked, rolled her eyes, and sobbed. I can not imagine a better book— one that truly spans the ages.
