angiehead 's review for:
Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man
by Fannie Flagg
Reviewing books isn’t really my thing. I use this space primarily to remind myself of what I liked about the book and what I found objectionable. I’ve heard it said that it is far easier to explain what you don’t like in a book versus what you did. I find that to be true.
On the positive end of the spectrum this book has that southern charm that draws me in every time. The main character is indeed a character, filled with personality and grit. Daisy Fay is endearing, tender-hearted, spunky, and hilarious. While her character matures and ends up a winner in life so to speak it rang just a little lackluster for me.
The negatives almost all weigh in on the morally bankrupt end of things. The book is riddled with such things as theft, drunkenness, adultery, homosexuality, murder, planned abortion, fornication, and more.
I had a hard time getting into this book but was won over by this main character such that I wanted to see how her story ended. Sadly, her life was either marked by the numerous issues listed above by either outside forces or by her own doing. I found myself half rooting for her and half just sad that her redemption was so truncated.
