Artemis by Andy Weir
3.0

Artemis, the first city on the moon and home to our narrator, Jazz Bashara. The story focuses on Jazz who has agrees to commit what she believes will be a simple crime. When things go wrong, not only Jazz's life is at stake. Jazz has found herself square in the middle of a larger plot which will have repercussions for all of Artemis.

The premise of this book sounded so good and I had such high hopes. This was my second Andy Weir book after Project Hail Mary. This one unfortunately didn't live up to expectations.

The first half was great and the world building fantastic. I loved learning about the moon and Artemis and its inhabitants. The middle section of the book was quite slow with not much action. I learnt more about welding than I did about anything I wanted to know about on Artemis.

The final third things picked up a bit, however this part seemed to rush through to the end too quickly. Id have likes to see more about Jazz and the other characters here.

The book is interspersed with letters Jazz and her pen pal write to each other over their lives. These gave some interesting backstop.

Jazz herself is hard to like. As other reviewers have noted, the wit and humor feels forced and stereotypical. The mentions about Jazz's sexuality felt cringy and not required.
