This was a wonderful start to a new historical romance series! Luz Alana is a fierce Caribbean rum heiress trying to run her family's business after her father's death and crosses paths with a dashing Scottish Earl who's got some troubles of his own.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Luz Alana and Evan. It was spicy, fun, with wonderful depth as they helped one another work through their respective issues. I also loved the friendship with Luz and her two best friends. Those girls are fiercely protective and the kind of people you want in their corner. I also really loved the plotline of Evan dealing with his devious duke of a father, it kept me intrigued and wanting to know how it would all play out.

The downsides for me were that the beginning of the book was kind of slow and some of the word choices felt a little odd. The pacing of the book picks up around the 50% mark which makes it a much quicker and fun read. I don't really know how to explain what bothered me about some of the word choices but somethings just felt off at certain points.

Aside from those couple of hang ups, this is a steamy, intriguing, read with wonderful representation that I think a lot of people will enjoy!
