I reread Red Rising prior to reading this, and I am glad I did as I had forgotten many of the characters and plots. Unexpectedly this doesn't pick up from where we left off , it starts 2 years later after and am glad as I thought we were going into another learning situation, but we come in the end of the hero's training. This book is full of intrigue and double crosses, and people we think are evil are not so black and vice versa. I didn't think it was possible but this book has improved upon the first and don't suffer from a second book slump. I am intentionally not giving too much plot away as it is better to get the whole experience of going in blind. I was listening to an audio version and the only problem I had was keeping track of all the names. I wish I had something to refer to to remind me who is who and their alliances. Can't wait to read the 3rd book, Morning Star.

A reread, still 5 stars. I can't fault this book. This book just gets better with a reread and you see all the breadcrumbs that Pierce Brown has set.
