One Two Three
by Laurie Frankel
In the small town of Bourne, everyone knows everyone else and everyone has been touched somehow by the event that turned the water green 17 years ago. The Mitchell Triplets included: Mab, the first of the triplets, who plans to graduate and go away to college, Monday, who at 16 runs the towns library, and Mirabel the third one to arrive, but smartest despite the inability to speak. The quiet town of Bourne has been getting by until the new neighbors arrive.
Frankel has somehow been able to wrap a small town mystery, amateur sleuths, and environmental concerns into a funny, heartwarming, coming of age novel for these three sisters. The character development and distinct voices makes the multiple point of view novel easy to read (and listen to, the narration was spectacular!) and adds a layer of depth to the story that was fantastic. This is a fast paced story that I had difficulty putting down. I appreciated the disability and neurodivergent character representation. This is the second book I’ve read of Frankel’s and love the “voice” she writes with! I look forward to reading more.
