Battle Ground
by Jim Butcher
My favorite parts of the Dresden Files books are the characters and the witty banter. The knowing the subtle funnies that Butcher adds to the novels always make me smile. My least favorite parts are the war and the battles and the everyone running around going crazy.
Unfortunately, Battle Ground is almost all the latter. While it has it moments of fun and witty banter as well as some incredibly emotional hits, a entire book about one battle was difficult and eventually just monotonous to read. Especially since we KNEW Harry would prevail in the end. That's how these stories run.
The denouement was spectacularly written and a stroke of genius on Harry's/Butcher's part. I absolutely loved it.
