White privilege and racism has not been more clearly explained. This is an artful novel. The writing is unique and done with purpose. I just struggled to emotionally connect. The magical realism doesn’t make sense until the very end, but when it makes sense, it’s powerful. The story has so many different threads that it’s hard to understand. I understand the importance of this book, but I didn’t love the execution.
