nrosenberg 's review for:
Pioneer Summer
by Katerina Silvanova, Elena Malisova
Thank god for happy (or maybe hopeful?) endings!
Some of the language, especially the dialogue, was a bit awkward, thought I cannot be sure if this is because of the original Russian or the translation. Still, I devoured this story and a setting I hadn’t really read fiction about before.
Yurka’s and Volodya’s story had echoes of Call Me By Your Name, but this romance is wholly original. I will be thinking about those two characters for a while.
Absolutely loved this. All the love and kudos to the original authors - Elena Malisova and Kateryna Sylvanova who fled Russia after the backlash this book received (as well as the war against Ukraine).
