Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
5.0
Two of my all time favorites series’ are Lunar Chronicles and The Red Queen, and this book is like those two had a baby… a spicy baby.
It’s not a totally fresh new idea, but it’s a comforting genre with a kick of spice and dragons. The addition of dragons and the part they play is amazing and I really love this series and can’t wait for the next one to come out!
This is a 5 star read for me because this is my favorite type of story, but I’ll always be honest so I can see why some people might be meh about it.
There weren’t pages and pages of info dumps, which I loved. I felt like the author did a great job of making sure we had the right amount of background information, emotions etc., without having Violet go on these rambling monologues.
Violet: female main character. She’s physically weak because she was just born tiny and she has fragile joints, but she’s a fighter and works like hell to stay alive and earn her place among the dragon riders even though this wasn’t her life’s plan.
Xaden: male main character. He’s popular and an outcast. He’s being punished for the sins of his father, therefore making him an outcast among many, but he’s hot and the best rider their world has seen in a long time, so he’s also popular. He has reasons to hate Violet, but he’s mature and pretty soon he learns to put that aside for the greater good. He’s still broody and moody, but I love that he wasn’t just an asshole for the entire book. I also love that he was showing Violet how he felt before he told her by his actions, which is how she figured it out. I love there we’re no empty words, but actions.
Dain: yeah, fuck Dain. I hope he has a death arc in the next book. Misogynistic, two-faced twat.
Side characters: amazing. There were so many good ones and they made the book so much better and more entertaining.
For some people you may not like the book because it’s a lot like other books, but it’s why I like it in the first place. I liked how strong Violet was and how she persevered. I will have to say that I didn’t like her in the last couple of chapters. I understand why she was angry, but she’s acting like an immature baby and she really annoyed me. I hope that this corrects itself pretty quickly in the next book.
