Fearless by Lauren Roberts

I could forgive Powerless being a copy of Red Queen, I could forgive Reckless being 200 pages too long with no storyline to make up for it, hell I could even forgive the complete lack of description and world building present in the entire series if the author had developed the characters properly, but she failed in all of these, this book single handedly ruined the series from how bad it is.

Kai has no character development whatsoever, Paedyn is so forgettable that I can't remember anything she did beyond going along with the story like a puppet and don't even get me started on whatever happened with Kitt.

This was boring and melodramatic, Kai's chapters were specially hard to get through because all he ever droned on and on was how it was that he wasn't the one marrying Paedyn. I considered DNFing during various  parts of the story because nothing. Happened. 70% of the book is hitting the same plot over and over and the last 100 pages are a dump of information and plot twists hoping to retain your attention after endless chapters of "and now you must survive X trial" and "I'm sad :(".

If I have to read the phrase "a tear rolls down my cheek" I'm going to hit someone. Not only is it grossly overused, there are so many more ways to write grief and sadness that the author is too lazy to portray.

This last book was just tiktok romantasy at it's blandest, genuinely nothing good about this, this book feels like those songs made for tiktok where the chorus goes viral and then you listen to the actual song and it's boring as hell because nothing is happening but suddenly Kai and Paedyn are together and a im13andthisisdeep quote jumps out going about "Pae is my inevitable", it's jarring how little everything else is paid attention to and out of nowhere you get a quote that's so clearly put there to make waves in those fan videos

Other things that made me hate this book:
  • Kitt and Calum's character assassination
  • Kitt revealling that Paedyn never had any agency actually, seeing as he knew she'd ask him to show her the way around the tunnels
  • Sibling marriage, wtf? and no one mentioned this further
  • The fact that had Kitt lived and Kai and Paedyn got married somehow it would cause an incent triangle which is actually insane
  • Bringing back Mak. giving him half a page of dialogue, and then killing him. His intentions are told by the most unreliable character ever
  • Any character with open plot lines is just killed, Mak? The third most powerful character in the series? Dies just because. Calum? The guy that was manipulating the king for decades? Yea he got sloppy and got himself killed. Kitt? Well he's between Kai and Paedyn so he must die
  • Kitt's random mental breakdown that undoes his character for the entire series, because having his unhingedness build through the trilogy was too much but because he coughed a few times this makes it a "sign"
