I'm Glad My Mom Died
by Jennette McCurdy
Book club read. We all rated it four stars. The main reason I’m straying from a five star is due to the lack of emotion (I listened to the audiobook) throughout the book from her. Overall it was sad & I had an idea it was coming based on the Nickelodeon docuseries that dropped not too long ago. The title is 100% accurate and I hope she’s in a better spot within therapy than she was when she originally wrote the book.
Main points. Her mom is awful. The people around her (excluding her icarly peeps) were awful. She needed an advocate and there was none in sight unfortunately. This tracks with the diet culture & stardom expectation of child stars in the early 2000’s.
