This is Where I Leave You
by Jonathan Tropper
This book was a surprise to me. I picked it up on a whim, and then read it in one weekend. Tropper's writing is lovely--his descriptions and his turns of phrase are often whimsical but perfectly create character and mood. There are times when I felt his sibling banter was a little over the top--people always have just the right turn of phrase and just the right witty response, and it didn't ring true--yet it was enjoyable to read. You wouldn't think the premise--a dysfunctional family sitting shiva--would be funny, but I found the book to be quite amusing, and even uplifting by the end. I liked it enough that I'll check out more of his books.
