Someone I Used to Know 🎧 Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars
I finally read my first Paige Toon book! And I have to say, I’m angry at myself for waiting so freakin long! Being a fast paced, thriller kind of reader, I often shy away from books that give off a happy, slow vibe. But wow! This was just what I needed - an emotional rollercoaster 🤩
This book focuses on foster care. So Leah lives with her biological parents and several foster children over the years. Toon just created the perfect foster parents, the perfect foster home (a Yorkshire alpaca farm! 🦙) and her words were spot on! This book just summarised the importance of a family, whether it be for 2 days or a lifetime.🌲
Character wise, I really enjoyed Leah, she was a smart and honest girl. Definitely someone most readers will relate to. George obviously stole the show, he was so raw and loveable from the beginning. Theo was a little harder for me to get on board with until the very end - I loved him then. 👀
Although I personally found myself enjoying the family life and daily struggles story line more, I could appreciate the romance. I loved that it wasn’t just a quick thing. This book switches between ‘then’ (teenage) and ‘now’ (adult) which suits the romance perfectly. I did find my heart hurting a bit with the scene right before the epilogue. If you love a slow burn, then this is your book. ❤️
