Whilst the two previous books prepare us for the ending of this trilogy (and this book spells it out at the start) the ending remains nothing but heartbreaking.

Through an even greater range of characters Backman continues to explore important topics such a homophobia, toxic masculinity, victim blaming, racism, classism, grief, friendship and community.

This book is so beautifully written and despite the length of this book, I didn’t want it to end because the trilogy is a masterpiece.

I appreciate that we were able to get a glimpse into each of the characters lives beyond the trilogy ending, even if this too leads to both hope and heartbreak in equal measure.

Benji Ovich is a character that will stay with me for a long time to come and for his story alone I’d recommend this trilogy to anyone.
