I picked this up at a library book sale because I remembered the cover from childhood. I probably read it several times, but I didn’t remember the story at all. Reading it now as an adult I found it a little odd. When I finished it right before going to sleep last night, it felt like a happy ending.
Jon and one worthy family escape to Jon’s homeland. Though the book doesn’t use religious language, life on his home planet sounds like heaven/The Kingdom of God/Beloved Community. The bad guys, and all of us readers, are left behind on earth to carry on as best we can. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of hope for us anytime soon.
