Vipers and Virtuosos by Sav R. Miller

5.0

Vipers and Virtuosos is a dark rock star, bully, stalker and forced proximity romance. Ahh... love, love this combination! The elements worked together amazingly; Sav R. Miller executed them so effortlessly! And she never ceases to surprise me! A compelling story of a famous rock star, Aiden James and his obsession and muse, Riley. Sav R. Miller's writing technique will take you on a non-stop journey. It's not a retelling per se but, there are quite a few references to the myth "Orpheus and Eurydice". Personally, Vipers and Virtuosos is a bit milder compared to "Promises and Pomegranates". And I liked this aspect of it; Sav R. Miller found the perfect balance for this novel. Make no mistake it's still a dark romance and our hero Aiden, without a doubt is a dark character: bullying and stalking Riley. Despite his cruel intentions and actions, Aiden is a character where you can easily love; there's more to him than meets the eye.

My gosh! The prologue! What a way to start! I had a feeling that there were going to be crossover characters from The King's Trace series, and I was so happy to see some of my favorite characters being featured in this book! Aiden might be your typical "rock star god", but beneath his facade, there's a loving, caring person; he is a lonely, sad soul. Riley has a traumatic past: despite being so young Riley, experienced a lot in her life. Riley is a gentle, fragile and lonely character, and she also has a negative view of herself; she faced a lot of internal battles on a daily basis. And in a way, Aiden and Riley have similar traits; they can relate to each other.

Heavy with grief and guilt, Riley is trying to pick up the pieces and move forward in her life. Yet there's something holding her back; she just doesn't know what it is. A certain fear that she can't put her finger on it. As soon as Aiden laid his eyes on Riley, he was immediately drawn to her. Surprised and curious, Aiden never felt this way with anyone before; he desperately wants to know her story. Aiden has a passion for music however when you are constantly in the spotlight and under scrutiny, it can be quite stressful. Besides her family, Riley doesn't really interact with people but this changes when Aiden comes into the picture. When an incident occurred it forced Riley to go off the grid, into hiding. But you can't outrun your past.
