Shirley by Charlotte Brontë

2.0

I think this concludes my attempt to read more Charlotte. I love Jane Eyre so much, but [b:Villette|31173|Villette|Charlotte Brontë|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1320412741l/31173._SY75_.jpg|40852693] and Shirley just could not hold my attention. Shoutout to my partner, who I read Shirley with, for keeping me mildly engaged - he was entertained enough that he helped me see some good points here and kept me going. But overall, the plot is very meandering, many characters are given narration with little to no consequence (Martin Yorke anyone?), I wasn't very sympathetic with any of them (Caroline was a nauseatingly love sick, Louis was kind of creepy), and it irritated me that no one was able to just communicate that they liked each other.
