The Will of the Many by James Islington

I know I need to write something, but I'm at an absolute loss of words. The Will of the Many is an absolute masterpiece of adult fantasy and exactly what I have been craving with the market being inundated with fae/dragon/YA fantasy romance. TWOTM is a breath of fresh air. It is also an incredibly well executed single POV narrative, which has become a rarity these days.

** I see a lot of comparisons to Red Rising, which I haven't read yet but is next on my list. Given that I will be reading it immediately after TWOTM, it will be interesting to see just how much overlap there is **

So what is TWOTM about? For those that said dark academia meets the hunger games: bang on.

I know political fantasy can be a lot to take in, but the story hooks you from the very first page. In a book where basically all the characters are immensely likeable, you don't trust a single one of them.  There were so many twists and betrayals, but nothing felt forced or pulled out of thin air. The magic system was unique, and while the world-building was fairly digestible I do wish we got a little more understanding of the how Will works/derives from. I am impatiently waiting for book 2 so that my many questions and loose threads will hopefully get some attention. Because where we left off..... Sir.... I need some answers.
