The Dire King by William Ritter
5.0
That's the way to end a series.
I started this series because it seemed light-hearted and clever, started to enjoy it for its mythology and wit, and came to love it because of the characters. Generally I have found the pervious books to be somewhat predictable - but never boring - but this one legitimately kept me guessing. I credit a lot of that with the introduction of Charlie's sister, Alina, who was a surprise from the start to the very end.
And though this book lacked a lot of the humor of its predecessors, it was appropriately atmospheric for a novel culminating in the final showdown between good and evil, and it did not pull any punches.
I am so glad I found this series.
