I would describe this a whimsical look at fantasy in the form of a lyrical fairy tale. Whimsical because the plot, the characters and setting were backdrops, less important. The story moves from cliche to cliche where each situation gets the whimsical, lyrical treatment and then it moves on. Often this is very good, but often the lyricism doesn’t work for me. I believe it started as a novella, perhaps this is the best way to read it. So worth reading, but not what I expected.
