Widdershins
by Charles de Lint
This is Jilly and Geordie's story, of their friendship and terrible timing never leading to more until now when they are suddenly both single at the same time. Geordie convinces Jilly to come to a gig he's filling in for to get her out of the house since she doesn't get out as much now with her mobility issues. Lizzie, a member of the band Geordie is playing in, had an odd experience the night before and now she's not sure if she's losing her mind or if it really happened. She tells Jilly about the experience and that night both women disappear.
There's a wide cast of characters, some we've seen before, some might be new, De Lint's characters are always interesting and flawed, and as always this is a very atmospheric read.
