Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors

4.0

Okay but for the plot I honestly didn’t expect this to be so good. SOOOO CRAZY GOOODD UGHH!! Written beautifully, stealing my focus and drawing me in from the very first page. It was so easy to keep on reading.
The characters were extremely imperfect but it’s what made them so real. The book focused on the impulsive love of frank and Cleo, two broken individuals trying to make it work. The story did not only focus’ on them but also the people around them.
I did, like many, find Cleo and her friends extremely irritating. But I think the unlikeable characters were used to make a point. Cleo and her friends were young, immature and riddled with trauma. Whereas Frank and his friends (the more likeable characters) had matured with age, they had grown up and continued fighting despite their upbringing.

Overall, this was honestly refreshing read, a change from polished characters that feel like actors portraying fictions. Again this was beautifully written and really made me think about love, relationships and life.
