Required reading. Not for any particular course. Just, required for contemporary culture. Like in You Are Not a Gadget (also required!) Jaron Lanier shows us where we're headed if we're not careful, what's happening in the technologists' world that has an impact on all of us and offers up possibilities for how we might do things differently.
If we lived in a world without these technologies, I'd say you could skip it. But if you're reading this on your computer or your phone or tablet or whatever, it might be worth investigating what Lanier has to say. I feel like, if we don't actually pay attention and make changes based on what he's talking about, we might end up really sorry in the future and wish we had.
