Powers and Thrones: A New History of the Middle Ages by Dan Jones
informative
medium-paced
2.5
This book has so much territory to cover, from the fall of Rome to the Reformation, that it’s just hard for it to flow well. It’s a very broad overview, and it doesn’t claim to be otherwise, but I prefer the Dan Jones books that are a little bit more focused, like The Plantagenets. This book basically just made me want to look for other books that flesh out some of these historical events more.
Graphic: Violence, Religious bigotry, Murder, and War
Moderate: Sexual violence, Torture, Antisemitism, and Islamophobia
Minor: Homophobia
