26/11/2023~ Not sure if it is a good idea to read this book even though I haven't read the first two- still gonna give it a try.
29/11/2023~ Sookie Stackhouse, a human telepath with a vampire boyfriend-Bill, finds herself in a new kind of trouble when the said boyfriend goes missing. With the help of Bill's vampire boss, Eric, she learns what might have lead to Bill's disappearance and promises to find him even after she learns the real reason he left in the first place. With the help of an acquitance of Eric, Alcide (a werewolf), she heads to Jackson, Mississippi, to the dangerous and supernatural bar- Club Dead. However, Trouble with a capital T seems to follow her wherever she goes.
Trigger Warning~ Blood diet, details of murder, details of violence, physical abuse, and sexual abuse (very brief).
As I mentioned, I haven't read the first two books but I am really glad that I could read this as a standalone with very little confusion. The important details about the situation were explained as necessary, making it easier to understand the character and situation background. The writing was captivating, effectively showing Sookie's sense of humor, as the story was in her point of view.
I absolutely loved Sookie throughout the story, though I can't say the same about the male characters (except Sam, Bubba, and Jason). She was so brave, fun, compassionate and understanding (not just because of her mind reading ability). I admire how she handled all the dire situations she faced with courage.
Though it's the 3rd book in the series, the world of the story was recapped well for my liking. The existence of the supernaturals, the coming out of the vampires, the traits and characteristics of the supernatural creatures- all were revealed properly in due course while maintaining the suspense of the story. The plot twists, the comedic reliefs and the recaps were suitably timed and executed.
I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for a fun horror-comedy urban fantasy with a sprinkle of steamy romance.
