The Grim Reaper's Lawyer by Mea Monique

Did not finish book. Stopped at 56%.
I was excited about this book because it seemed to have promise. It fell flat almost immediately.

Thoughts :
- interesting concept of the afterlife but it desperately needed more fleshing out
- the writing style was so…formal. The repeated use of “I am” instead of “I’m” made the dialogue incredibly stilted
- Joyce had zero endearing qualities and was constantly outshone by a side character
- Joyce and Aiden’s dynamic felt so disjointed. Their transition from “enemies” to more wasn’t smooth. It felt so random when he started calling her ‘baby’. One scene they couldn’t get along and the next minute they were close. It didn’t feel like they had any chemistry whatsoever
- the scene with Aiden after Joyce got back from reaping souls with Joey didn’t seem consensual in the slightest. That’s what made me dnf.

I won’t be reading anything else from this author.
