Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray
3.0

For the first half of the book, it feels like Thackeray is determined to remind you that his characters have no redeeming values (making the idea of reading 800 pages about them rather dull). He seems to nearly forget this in the second half, and becomes more absorbed in the story of his characters. A long, relatively easy read. This reminded me - in the manner of opposite approaches - of Louisa May Alcott's work - my preference being for Louisa May Alcott.
