The Winter Knight by Jes Battis
2.0
you’d think more autistic queer people would like this book but here i am. not liking this book.
the characters made no sense. the timeline made no sense. the arthurian legend part made no sense. this book would have been so much better if there had been less going on overall. is it a murder mystery? is it an exploration of queerness/ neurodivergence? is it a retelling of camelot from the perspective of secondary and tertiary characters? i stuck around for the whole thing and couldn't tell you what kept me going for the second half of the story.
overall, bad world-building with bad character development on top of a million contemporary references to remind you you’re in the 21st century, not ye olde england. just disappointing. almost DNFed the epilogue just because i needed this to be over (skimmed it becausebert is literally an accomplice to a murder and you're just letting him vibe as a master's student dating an 18/20 year old? )
