In the Woods

I couldn’t do it anymore. Once Rob slept with Cassie, it felt like a complete detachment from the characters she built. And it seemed so unnecessary. I quit being invested in Rob early on, he is entirely unlikable (which truly, bravo to French because I do believe this was intentional) and he never seemed to get around to his story. French is an absolutely lovely writer and the mystery itself carried me far beyond where I would’ve stopped.
But, it just couldn’t hold my interest anymore. I would love to try another book by French but not a mystery. It was too dense with a lot of unnecessary moments, regardless of how beautiful her writing is, and so many moments felt so cheesy.
I also accidentally found out we never find out what happened to Adam in the woods and that took ALL the wind out of my sail. I find that insulting for 500 pages worth of material.
