💕 I'm a sucker for stories like this one - two broken men, both fraught with guilt, who come together to heal and find love. One struggles to move on from the guilt of coming home from the war when his friend didn’t. Living life day by day without any real joy or light. The other has run away. He has a family that loves him, yet he is unable to let go of his own guilt.
I absolutely love these types of stories. Stories of healing through love. Where one person brings the other to see the light and joy of life. But, to get to the healing, they need to confront the past. These stories are emotional and fraught with feelings of sadness, hope and finally, a happily ever after.
Garry Michael’s characters have depth and show the frailty and beauty of the human spirit. The setting is visually stimulating. I can almost feel the salty sea air that he describes. I can picture this quaint little island as it is so vividly described. I can feel the anxiety coming off our character in waves. The whole thing is beautiful. The ethnic diversity of the characters just leads to an extra bit of homecoming for me, and I couldn't love it more.
