DMZ The Deluxe Edition Book One by Brian Wood, Riccardo Burchielli

5.0

Loved this like crazy. It imagines a United States mired in a civil war. There are no frontlines, just hotly contested territories, and of all of them, the island of Manhattan may be the hottest. Matty Roth, an intern for one of the big patriotic news agencies, finds himself stranded in the Manhattan DMZ when a journalistic gig goes horribly awry. It doesn't take Matty too long to realize that what he's known to be true about this remnant of New York City is completely wrong, and he decides to try to set the record straight.

This is a thrilling "what if?" and also a big ol' love letter to NYC. The artwork is gorgeous and fits the subject matter perfectly. Seek this out!
