Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, Thomas Keymer
2.0

Before I begin the actual review, I realise that it's difficult to review a book from the 18th century in the 21st century, meaning my views are definitely be influenced by this.

Anyway, I had to read this book for my english lit university class and I was actually pretty excited about it to begin with, since I had heard it was great. However, the book really did not live up to my expectations and the more time I spend reading about it/analysing it, the less I actually like it.
In my opinion the book was immensely boring and at times it really dragged out. I mean, ok great that Robinson is figuring out how to stay alive on the island, but maybe describing how he killed some goats, and sowed some corn didn't have to take up 2/3 of the book.
Moreover, Robinson was a deeply unsympathetic character. He generally seems to think that he is far superior to everyone and really doesn't care about other people on a deeper level.
When he meets another human for the first time in 24 (?) years, his first thought is to make said person a slave.
Friday, however, was a great character. He almost seems to be the complete opposite of Robinson. He was lively, fun and really sympathetic. When he discoveres that his father is alive, he jumps up and down with joy, whereas Robinson doesn't even mention missing his parents once.

To conclude i really think this book would have been much better, had it been half as long as it is.
This review came out more negatively than I intended, I'm sorry about that.
