Hadn't read Isabelle Allende before, either despite or because she's considered mandatory reading in Berkeley, but I was very impressed with her prose. The plot was also damn good, with some actual historical characters. Zorro is thee inspiration for Batman; when will you ever again have a comic character written so well?
