Mongrels is unlike any werewolf story I've read, and I loved it. It's a coming-of-age story, it's a family story, it's a story of folks who are transient, rootless, and living hand[or paw, sometimes, har har]-to-mouth. This book had it all-- graphic scenes, tender scenes, funny scenes. And the way Graham Jones alternately builds on and wholesale rejects common werewolf lore is just so good.
