The Poison Tree by Erin Kelly

2.0

I love everything else by Erin Kelly, but this book did not do it for me. The characters were not likable, the plot drug by.....

The plot moves between now, when the narrator Karen is raising her young daughter Alice and her husband has just been released from prison, and before the events that sent him to prison. Young Karen meets Biba and becomes obsessed with her. Biba and her brother live in a run down mansion and live a hedonistic life, relying on family money. They take an eclectic group into their inner circle, allowing those people to live at the house. Biba makes a terrible choice in a boyfriend and that ends in a double murder. Her brother, Rex, serves several years in prison for crimes Biba committed. Karen and Rex believe Biba has committed suicide, but she shows up at the end of the story. It is revealed that Alice is Biba's child, whom Biba abandoned, but now wants back. Karen kills her and hides the evidence. End of story.
