Forever Her Duke by Scarlett Scott
1.0
I saw that my Hoopla loan was about to end and, even though I don't remember borrowing this, I figured it was the perfect length audiobook to get through while half-focusing on work on a slow Friday afternoon
I regret listening to this story
Vivi is a ridiculous character, she has absolutely no motivation but being in love with or being in hate with her husband. We see her planning a party but it's literally a side-quest and takes none of her time or effort once Court returns. She has no opinions on it or interest in it besides a random throwaway line to remind the reader that she Does Stuff Sometimes
Court is a loser,he made some promise to Vivi's brother that made him leave her for a year with no contact at all, letting Vivi think she's abandoned and unwanted, and then he just? shows up? one day? . I would rip him apart with my bare hands
The sex scenes were not spicy, they were detailed with awkward dialogue and I gagged at one point listening to them speak
BESIDES ALL OF THAT, the way the story is told is done well - yes, the characters leave something to be desired but the pace and setting fit the vibe. The narration is excellent, a narrator can't control their source material. The author is probably improving with each attempt but, while a short book is never going to have AMAZING character development, it should have some insight to a character's motivations. And if you're going to start a book with a woman hating her husband, let's see her stop hating him in a natural way and not just in a bathtub
