The Speech: A Historic Filibuster on Corporate Greed and the Decline of Our Middle Class by Bernie Sanders

4.0

I added this book to my want-to-read shelf years ago, when I first started learning about American politics and heard about Bernie Sanders.
I must say I didn't actually read this; I found a recording of the speech itself on YouTube and watched the whole 8 hours and 34 minutes of it.
The speech was of course a bit repetitive; after all, it needed to drive home a handful of key points, and it did so very effectively. Senator Sanders used a wealth of statistics, extracts and letters to paint a picture of the American economy in 2010, when the middle class was shrinking due to the financial crisis, the uber-rich were gaining more than ever, and the US Senate was about to pass a bill which gave huge tax breaks to the top 0.24%.
It's a passionate speech, and an articulate one too, so it's worth listening to; if anything, it's a lesson on recent economic history and a rally to get involved.
