The Martian by Andy Weir
5.0

It feels like it's been a while since I've really enjoyed a book, lately often growing bored with most things I pick up and going through to motions to finish them, which was leading to me starting to fall out of love with reading.

Every person I've seen talk about The Martian has given it 5 stars but it's sci-fi space stuff and I've never been interested in that sort of thing so I never bothered reading it. Finally, I was watching Bookables talk about it and she sold me on it, so I reserved it at my library in hopes it would be a 5-star for me too. And it pretty much was.

The sense of humour is my kind of humour and I laughed out loud multiple times throughout. The science and math stuff went completely over my head but it was still cool to follow him figuring it all out. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this book.

From Chapter 18, I got impatient wanting to know what happens and was tempted to skim-read to find out faster. I didn't but the pacing not matching up with me spoiled it a little.
I was genuinely stressed for the end chapters. I felt like I was watching it in real life and was real-life anxious. It took me almost an hour after I finished the book to calm down.

I'm really glad I read this book, I enjoyed it and would probably even re-read it which isn't something I really do.

Side note:  My library's version was the movie tie-in and I hate the cover but it was a floppy paperback and my love for floppy paperbacks is immense and increases my reading enjoyment by at least 15%, so that might have helped too).
