I love the town of Shady Hollow and deeply enjoyed the first book in the series. This one was okay, but I figured out the mystery pretty early on in the book.

Following thoughts contain spoilers:

1. I wish they had given us more emotion from Joe. Like BRO, you just found out the wife you thought LEFT YOU TEN YEARS AGO has actually BEEN DEAD THE WHOLE TIME. Like that’s a lot to process and even though he’s not guilty of killing her, he likely feels incredibly guilty for not looking FOR her. Or reporting her missing. Come on!

2.Also, second time we had a female killer idk I’d just like to see it mixed up a little.

3. In this one, Vera made some really obtuse choices that were out of character for her. I was especially surprised she didn’t attend Julia’s funeral. Even if she was having a moment about Orville, I would imagine she’d attend the funeral.

4. I was really hoping it was less obvious & that Octavia was a red herring. I was honestly hoping Julia was some sort of super selfish/totally out-of-her mind wildcard who would show up halfway through the book and throw everyone off & that the moose was another rando who happened to be buried in the orchard lol
