Sabrina & Corina by Kali Fajardo-Anstine

3.5 rounded down to 3 stars.
Sabrina & Corina by Kali Fajardo-Anstine is a debut story collection that delves into the lives of Latina characters of indigenous ancestry who inhabit in the American West. This book explores topics like abandonment, heritage and sense of home from a female perspective.

Although I will never be the best story reader, I really enjoyed Sabrina & Corina. The first tale 'Sugar Babies' was one of my favorites. In this story, sixth grader Sierra is forced to partner with a male student to take care of an infant bag of sugar. Feeling constantly abandoned by her mother, Sierra breaks down when her sugar baby dies. I also loved another tale called 'Cheesman Park'. I highly recommend this book if you're into short stories, if you care for the issues mentioned above and if you're interested in Latin and indigenous identities.
