this book was atmospheric and i felt like i was in penang. i really enjoyed the characters and their stories and personalities and secrets. i feel like the pacing was steady, although i wanted it to be a bit quicker. the ending was poetic yet vague and i felt like i missed something about who arthur was unless it was supposed to be ethel’s story all along? if that makes sense. i’ve gotta think about that - i can’t help but think i missed some clues along the way.
overall, an immersive book that i liked. the lavender marriages, how terrible that must’ve been.
