Navigating the Stars by Maria V. Snyder

4.0

This book was picked to get me out of a reading slump I’d been in, where I just couldn’t get into anything. It delivered in just that. It’s something fun and easy, typical young adult stuff and constantly leaving you wanting to know what will happen next.

It was awesome having a quirky female lead, and I appreciated the care Snyder put into portraying that tension of being in the cusp of adulthood, whilst also being treated like a child (and sometimes just wanting to act like one). The main characters around her were equally compelling and I love the relationship she has with her parents.

THE HUMOUR. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but the comedy was super reminiscent of the TV show Firefly which I loved. It’s been a long time since I’ve laughed out loud with a book.

The sci-fi aspects were cool but I look forward to the developments it must be taking in the second book to grow this area.

It lost a star because there were a few sections where I wanted to scream at the book or characters “JUST GET ON WITH IT”. Mostly so fast paced, and yet it seemed to randomly slow down and plod along with much reason.

It constantly led in a different direction than anticipated, and I’m looking forward to picking up the next one.
