Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster
by Svetlana Alexiévich
When you read this book, it's hard to believe that the events the individuals are describing actually happened. It feels like something out of a science fiction novel, but it's not. I was fascinated by the events of Chernobyl, but did not know very much about how it impacted people in the surrounding area. Their sadness and grief is heartbreaking and so very real.
