You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty
by Akwaeke Emezi
"...reminds me of grief... the way it destroys so much around us. The way it feels like a lifetime of venom, spikes piercing through us."
Feyi lost her husband, the love of her life, in a terrible accident, and after year of grieving and coping with her survival she is ready to open herself back up. Feyi finds herself dating a man she enjoys being around but feels hesitant to open herself up physically to him. Then she meets his dad and finds herself physically and emotionally attracted to him, and guilty for these feelings.
I sat down with this book not thinking I was in the mood for a "romance" but was instantly pulled in with Emezi's beautiful writing. I found their ability to show the dark and light side of characters done in such an honest way that made this story captivating.
