Bad for a Weekend by Misty Walker

4.0

Deliciously sexy, surprinsgly emotive, and brimming with forbidden tension and angst! Bad for the Weekend is my kind of naughty- this age gap/body guard love story has sizzling steam and the right balance of heartfelt sweet.

The tropes of this story were an instant oneclick for me- age gap, forbidden, body guard, heroine in danger?! GIMME! And Misty delivered on all of those, but there was also a surprising emotional depth to this story too, one I didn't quite expect but that also gave the story an added and appreciated layer of substance. It tempers the edge of the taboo in a really delightful way by providing such an emotional complexity to these characters' connection with each other.

Owen is deliciously alpha and protective, and I loved how he struggles with the lines he's crossing. His own history and trauma inspire a real and formidable connection with her heroine, and their shared moments of vulnerability supersede any societal or professional boundaries...blurring lines. I really loved a hero like this- strong, intense, alpha, and stoic, but really emotionally open, with his own fragility. And while Baylor's sass at times chaffed, she's also a teenager, and to be fair, she's pretty mature for her age given both her privileged upbringing and her response to her traumatic kidnapping. As much as it is a romance, this is also a coming of age story for her, and a tale of two characters working their baggage in their shared lived experiences. It's emotive and rich, but also action packed- I love nothing more than seeing a hero protect a heroine.

Of course we have lots of sexy stuff, and a few twists along the way. Because of the narrative constructive, my only gripe is that our characters spend much of the story apart/not together. It ups the angst and anticipation, but makes this a much slower burn feeling AND made me crave a bit more content of the "falling" in love. Though the chemistry is certainly there.

Another amazing addition to the Blurred Lines series- which I have just adored. If you're looking for a forbidden story with a lot of heart, this one certain takes the cake.
