I really wanted to like this one, as Nadya is one of my favorite underdeveloped Wayward kids. Unfortunately, she stayed that way even when given her own story. It started out promising, especially with her navigating starting off in an orphanage and being adopted by parents who (at least her mom) doesn't seem to have her best interests at heart. Plus the tension of ableist assumptions of normal. But once she goes through the door, her story loses its thread and meanders through an undeveloped world. I didn't understand the water thing, and I really didn't have strong feelings about any of her family there. And the ending has zero sense of loss or drama. Just a disappointment of a book.
