I read Iron & Embers (The Ashes of Thezmarr) before realizing there was a whole other series before it. 😂 For extra context I decided to read Slaying the Shadow Prince before I start The Legends of Thezmarr series. I listened to the audiobook (which was done in dual style) and it was great! I especially love the way Islay Jacobs conveyed Drue's emotions. Stellar performance.
Drue was a badass FMC and I loved how fierce she was. She does not mess around, especially when it comes to protecting her loved ones and people. The banter between her and Tal was great and I ate up the tension between them. I would have loved more intimacy between them - not just sex, but I did like their depiction overall. I appreciated how a big part of this story is about fully accepting yourself and who you are, even the parts you don't think are that great.
I love the bonds between the characters in this book and I'm looking forward to reading Wilder and Thea's story! I'm not sure if Tal and Drue will come back but one can only hope. :') Helen Scheuerer, thank you for sharing these incredible books with us.
