Helpless by Crystal Ash
4.0

Representation: Latina and Latino main characters, supporting characters (who might all be bisexual) are in a MMM side romance and the Heroine (as of this book) has three husbands

Overall: 4.25/5 stars

Helpless is a great—and sweet—addition to Mari and her men’s story. I know quite a few reviews thought the relationship between the MCs was too sweet... but I really enjoyed not having to stress about Mari’s other husbands. I also appreciate how the Crystal Ash doesn’t shy away from showing the difficulties of being in a relationship like this. Gunnar, for example, is the newest addition and, as a result, starts to feel insecure when the men start to realize the developing closeness between Mari and Shadow. But, it’s quickly addressed by BOTH Mari and Reaper and Jandro.

The plot in Helpless focuses on the Club leaving their home base in search of a safer home. Enroute, they make a stop at a pretty nice town that heralds back to pre-collapse. However, the governor’s daughter has been kidnapped! Mari being a medic... and well, Mari volunteers to go with Odin’s son, her “brother-in-law” Larkan and Shadow to go rescue her. Because, the MC might need the support of the governor in their fight against General Tash.

Honestly, the action parts weren’t that captivating. By far the best part of Helpless is the bonding between Shadow and Mari. Although, the concerns of the men are also now becoming real concerns for me. Especially as they can lead to really big miscommunications... check out the safety spoiler for details.

The paranormal aspect I actually don’t mind at all. I like how the Goddess is proving a sounding board for the group... seems like they won’t mess up too badly that way (fingers crossed). Alsooo, I really enjoyed how Mari and Reaper actually talk about whether or not they want kids and when, instead of her accidentally getting pregnant and everyone having to adjust. It’s kinda sad that situation is unique in romance novels.

The reason why not 5-stars is because Reaper’s brother’s warning from the last book seriously ruined my reading enjoyment. I’m going to read each book like I’m waiting for the next shoe to fall off
